Vendegh Named CAA Player of the Year/ Dawson Named CAA Coach of the Year

NORFOLK, VA-Old Dominion sophomore Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) and head coach Alan Dawson earned top honors on the All-CAA men's soccer team.

Vendegh, who led the conference in scoring for the second year in a row, was named the Player of the Year after being named the Rookie of the Year in 2000. The sophomore scoring ace amassed 15 goals and six assists during the 2001 campaign, and was a two-time CAA Player of the Week selection. Vendegh currently ranks sixth for career goals and career points at Old Dominion.

Dawson, who was also the CAA Coach of the Year in 1999, picked up the honor again after guiding the Monarchs to an undefeated conference record. Old Dominion finished 8-6-2 overall, 3-0-2 CAA and clinched the top spot in the upcoming men's tournament for the second time in three years.

Joining Vendegh on the All-CAA first team was Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY), who was named to the first team for the third year in a row. Mendes has two goals and three assists so far in 2001 and is third on the career assists chart at ODU.

Rounding out Old Dominion's All-CAA selections were freshman defender Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA) and junior midfielder Ben Cummins (Queensland, Australia), who were both second team picks.
