PRINCETON, NJ - Top seed and defending National Champion OldDominion University defeated Umass, 6-1 in the first round of the NCAA FieldHockey Championships. The Lady Monarchs (18-4) will meet Princeton,a 4-1 winner over Northeastern on game Sunday at 2 p.m. in the regional finals.
Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA.) and Tara Hermann ( Perkasie, Pa.)scored two goals each on the day. Snow also had an assist on the day.
After first half goals by Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Holland) and Hermann putthe Lady Monarchs up, 2-0, Umass got a goal from Jill Fantasia with 19:05 left inthe half.
In the second half, Tiffany Snow scored on a penalty corner two minutesinto the half, the with 23 minutes left passed to Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.) for agoal to make it 4-1. Hermann scored on an unassisted goal four minutes later and withthree minutes remaining, Snow completed the Lady Monarchs scoring on an unassistedgoal.
Old Dominated dominated play, outshooting Umass, 24-3 and getting 21-2edge in penalty corners.
