NORFOLK, VA-The Old Dominion men's soccer team and Virginia Commonwealth battled to a 2-2 draw this evening. The Monarchs are now 7-4-1, 2-0-1 CAA. VCU's record is now 6-5-2, 1-0-1 CAA.

Both sides drew blood early in the game, as ODU's Chad Denton (Va. Beach, VA) found the back of the Ram net off passes from Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA) and Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) for a one goal lead at the 3:26 mark.

The Rams found the equalizer just one minute later, however, as forward Matthew Delicate headed in a long cross from teammate Roman Otten to tie the game 1-1.

The Rams struck again just moments after intermission, when Randy Ugarte maneuvered to the top of the box and sent in a shot high to the far post, beating Monarch goalie Chad Calderone (Rockville Centre, NY).

Trailing 2-1, the Monarchs finally regained their tempo in the final 25 minutes of play and tied the game with a Vendegh goal at 83:57. With his back to VCU goalie Steve Ankiel, Vendegh flicked the ball backwards over the keeper and outraced him to the loose ball, putting in his 14th goal of the year.

Old Dominion controlled play throughout much of the overtime sessions, but couldn't find a game-winner. VCU had two chances to score in the waning moments with a breakaway and a short-range direct kick, but Calderone proved cool under pressure and preserved the tie.

ODU held a 15-13 edge in shots and a 9-8 advantage in corners. Both goalies finished with eight saves.

The Monarchs will return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Chapel Hill to take on the Tar Heels.
