Norfolk, VA-Sophomore scoring machine Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia), scored two goals this evening to power Old Dominion (2-3) past High Point (2-1). The goals were Vendegh's eighth and ninth scores of the year, and he now has five goals in his last two games.
After a tough first half that saw excellent defense from both sides, Vendegh finally got the Monarchs rolling just minutes into the second half. Driving towards the goal, his shot went off the fingertips of Panther goalie Eric Lona and into the far right corner for a 1-0 Monarch lead. Eight minutes later Vendegh struck again, taking advantage of a scramble in front of the Panther net and a short assist from teammate Chad Denton (Va. Beach, VA).
Old Dominion's third score came courtesy of a High Point misdirected pass and an own goal. With freshman David Marut (Winchester, VA) buzzing the goal box, Panther goalie Lona couldn't get a grasp on the misplayed ball and it slipped by him.
ODU' s final two scores came courtesy of freshman Kyle Hartley (Va. Beach, VA) and Jason Reese (Lancaster, PA), who scored their first two collegiate goals this evening. Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY) and Ryan Sniegoski (Boxborough, MA) picked up the assists.
High Point's lone goal was scored on a penalty kick by Damon Ming with just twenty minutes remaining.
The Monarchs will be back in action this weekend, when they host American on Saturday.
