HIGH WYCOMBE, ENGLAND- The U.S. Women's lacrosse team under the direction of Old Dominion University women's lacrosse coach Sue Stahl defeatedAustralia, 14-8 to win the IFWLA World Cup. The U.S. has won every championshipin which Sue Stahl has been the head coach, making her the first person to win fourworld titles. The USA has won 12 straight matches in World Cup competition.
The USA squad fell behind, 2-0 in the five minutes then scored seven of the nextnine goals and never looked back. Former Lady Monarch assistant Michelle Uhlfelderscored two goals for the USA who reached the finals by beating Germany, 18-0 inthe quarterfinals and Canada, 25-2 in the semi-finals.
Stahl coached the USA to World Cup titles in 1989 in Perth, Aurustralia, in1993 in Edinburgh, Scotland and in 1997 in Japan. This past collegiate season herLady Monarch squad ranked 15th nationally.
