#14 East Carolina Defeats Monarchs, 11-4

NORFOLK, VA.-- Fourteenth ranked East Carolina pounded out 15 hits to defeat the Monarchs of Old Dominion, 11-4 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest Friday night . ECU is now 34-10 overall and 12-1 in the CAA, ODU drops to 17-26 overall and 6-10 in the CAA.

In the top of the first with two outs Joseph Hastings, double home Chad Tracy, John Williamson singled in Hastings and Lee Delfino doubled home Williamson to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead. ODU made it, 3-1 as freshman Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ.) singled in David Vilardi.

With ECU leading 6-1, the Monarchs cut into the Pirates lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, Md.) singled home Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) and David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) doubled home Strick. The Monarchs left the bases loaded. In the sixth, ODU cut it to 6-4 on a David Vilardi homer, his first of the year.

ECU pulled away with two runs in the seventh as John Williamson scored on an error and Brad Simons scored on a sacrifice fly by Clayton McCullough . In the eighth inning, Hastings singled in Bryant Ward, Chad Tracy scored on a wild pitch and Williamson's sac fly scored Brad Simons. Lefthander Sam Narron picked up his eighth win of the year for ECU.

Freshman Allen Strick led the Monarchs with three hits, while David Vilardi knocked in two runs on the day. ODU left ten runners on base.

The two teams play on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
