WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Jamie D'Antona's three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to helped 24th ranked Wake Forest to a 13-8 victory over Old Dominion University Wednesday afternoon. ODU had come to within two runs in the top of the seventh (10-8). The Monarchs drop to 12-17, and The Deamon Deacons improve to 19-7.
Wake Forest broke out to a 8-0 lead after three innings thanks to two-run rbi hits from Josh Hansen, Carlos Brackley. Brackley hit a two-run homer in the third inning.
In the fourth inning, Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa. ) and Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) each knocked in a run to make it 8-2, but Stephen Ghutzman doubled home two more runs for Wake Forest in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth, The Monarchs scored four runs as Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.) knocked in two runs while Ryan Dunn (Bristol, Va.) and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, Md.) each drove in one run. Moye and Eure each knocked in a run in the seventh to cut the lead to 10-8 before D'Antona's homer which gave Wake Forest a five-run cushion.
Dunn led the Monarchs with three hits, while Eure, Moye and Robertson each knocked in a two runs. D' Antona led the Deacons with four runs batted in, while Stephen Ghutzman had four hits and three runs batted in for Wake Forest.
The Monarchs return home on Friday for a three-game CAA series with James Madison beginning at 7:00 p.m.
