Old Dominion Upsets No. 13 Delaware 11-6 in Women's Lacrosse

NEWARK, DE -- Old Dominion junior Jennifer Heister scored five goals,including four in the first half, as the Lady Monarchs upset No. 13ranked University of Delaware 11-6 in a non-league womens lacrosse gameSaturday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

Old Dominion (1-1), which opened the season with a 14-9 loss to No. 8Virginia Wednesday, won its first game of the season and downed Delawareafter falling to Hens each of the last two seasons. The Lady Monarchsjumped out to a 5-0 lead, thanks to three goals from Heister, and neverlooked back.

Delaware, which opened the season with as 12-7 win over Richmond lastSaturday, got two goals and two assists from Ashley Moderacki while LizWalton also tallied twice.

Suzanne Wosczyna added three goals and assist, Dana Wisniewski scoredtwice, and Marlaine Smith chipped in with a goal and an assist to leadthe Monarchs, who outshot Delaware 28-19. ODU goalkeeper Laurie Kollerposted seven saves in the win.

Delawares Laurie Tortorelli posted 10 saves for the Blue Hens.

After building a 6-3 halftime lead, Old Dominion scored the first threegoals of the second half to go up 9-3. Delaware answered with a goal byModeracki at the 23:40 mark, but the Hens would not score again untilthe final minute of play.

Delaware will return to play March 14 at Rutgers as the Hens embark on asix-game, 24-day road trip.
