Turner and Spence Spark Lady Monarchs over St. John's, 65-52

JAMAICA, NY (Dec. 7) -- Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs defeated The RedStormof St. John's, 65-52 behind the solid play of newcomers Corrina Turner(Miami, FLa.) and Myriah Spence( Espanola, NM.). Old Dominion improves to 2-3, and St. John's drops to3-2.

Down 22-16 in the first half, Myriah Spence, a 6-0 forward cameoff the bench and hit five straightpoints to draw the Lady Monarchs to within one, 22-21. With 1:20 left inthe half, Spence hit anothertrey and the Lady Monarchs were up 29-24. Okeisha Howard(Va.Beach, Va.)finished the first half run with a treyto put Old Dominion up 32-24 at halftime. Spence finished with a careerhigh nine points.

Tiffany Thompson(Clinton, Md.) opened the second half with a trey togive ODU an 11 points leadat 35-24. St. John's cut the lead to four at 16:08 on a basket by SherriBrown, but they would get nocloser.

Junior forward Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali ) scored 11 points anddished out five assists,while the 6-6 Turner hauled in ten rebounds to go with her 19 points.

Old Dominion shot .449 (22-49) from the floor, while St. John's shot.322 (19-59). The Red Stormoutrebounded ODU, 36-35. St. John's was led in scoring and rebounding byTynisha Myles with18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Lady Monarchs break for exams and return to action on Dec. 18 whenthey host UCLA inthe fieldhouse.
