NORFOLK, VA. (June 15) - Old Dominion University baseball coach Tony Guzzo andAll-American shortstopTim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) shared top honors on the 2000 Division I All-StateBaseball team chosenby the Virginia College Sports Information Directors.
Guzzo, who guided the Monarchs to a 33-24-1 record and an at-large bid tothe NCAA Regionals is Virginia'sCo-Coach of the Year with Liberty University's Dave Pastors. Hummel, the CAAPlayer of the Year and DefensivePlayer of the Year was named Co-Player of the Year with VCU's Jason Dubois.
Hummel, a second round draft selection last week by the Chicago White Soxhit .408 with eight homer runs and68 runs batted in. He fanned only 22 times, while walking 55 times and scored 66runs. He owns the University singleseason fielding mark of .963 for a shortstop and owns both the CAA and OldDominion career on base percentagemark of .508.

Hummel has been selected first team All-American by BASEBALLWEEKLY and COLLEGIATEBASEBALL. He is a second team All-American selection by the American BaseballCoaches Association.
Joining Hummel on the All-State squad is sophomore firstbaseman JaredMusolf (Lakehurst, NJ.). Musolf rankedsecond in the CAA in hitting at .413. He knocked in 52 runs and had 15 doubles.
Both Hummel and Musolf were named to the ABCA first team All-Region squad.
Old Dominion started the 2000 season with a 2-9-1 record, but finished theseason strong, sweeping three-gameroad series at #21 East Carolina and Virginia Commonwealth along with two winsover Virginia Tech, and N.C. State.The Monarchs have reached the NCAA Regionals five times since 1990.
