Hoover Pitches Monarchs Past Radford, 5-2

NORFOLK, VA. (May 8) - Freshman righthander Mike Hoover (Gloucester, Va.) pitched histhird straight complete game, a two hitter as Old Dominion University defeatedRadford University, 5-2 in a non-conference game on May 8. The Monarchs are now29-18-1, while the Highlanders drop to 25-21.

Hoover walked only one batter and fanned eight. He held the Highlandershitlessuntil the fourth when Sean Walsh singled home Mike Potter for their first run.Radford's second run came in the seventh when Adam McKenzie slammed hisfourth home run of the season over the rightfield fence.

The Monarchs got on the board in the second inning as Brent Sollenberger(Chambersburg, Pa..) double home Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.). Then JasonGreiner's(Wexford, Pa.) groundout scored Joe Troilo (Avondale, PA.). In thethird inning, Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) doubled home David Vilardi (Fishkill,NY.) and hummel then later scored on a wild pitch.

In the sixth inning, Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) doubled then scored on BrentSollenberger's single. Sollenberger had two hits and two RBI, while Hummel hadtwo hits and an RBI. Hummel is now hitting .414.

The two teams play May 9 at 3 p.m. in the Bud Metheny BaseballComplex.
