Duke Rallies To Defeat Monarchs, 7-6

DURHAM, NC (May 7) --The Duke Blue Devils rallied for three runsin the bottom of the ninth to defeat Old Dominion Universityon May 7, 7-6. The Monarchs drop to 28-18-1, whileDuke is 15-36.

Down 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth the Blue Devils rallied for three runson RBI singles from Larry Broadway and Wes Goodner and won the game with twoouts when Broadwayscored on a passed ball. Broadway also picked up the winin relief.

The Monarchs were paced by Jared Musolf(Lakehurst, NJ.) who hit atwo-run homer in the seventh that game the Monarchs a 5-2lead. Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) singled home a run in the top of the ninthwhich game Old Dominion a 6-4 lead. Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC) knockedin two runs with an rbi double in the second and an rbi single in the fourth.

Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.)got a no decision as he pitched eight innings,fanning six and scattering 11 hits. The Blue Devils hittwo homeruns. JD Alleva hit a solo shot in the first andwinning pitcher Broadway hit a solo shot in the eighth.

The Monarchs return to action on May 8 to host Radfordat 5 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Complex.
