NORFOLK, VA. (April 19) - Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) knocked in three runs withfour hits, and junior lefthander Parker Friske (Va. Beach, Va.) picked up hisfourth win of the year as Old Dominion University defeated N.C. State, 12-2 Wednesdaynight in a non-conference game. The Monarchs have won five straight to improvetheir record to 24-16, while the Wolfpack drops to 24-19.
Musolf knocked in Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) in the first,David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) in the third inning and Jason Greiner (Wexford,Pa.) in the five-run fifth inning. Sollenberger and Ross Robertson (Chesapeake,Va.) each knocked in two runs. Sollenberger, the CAA Player of the Week hadthree hits to up his average to .318, while Musolf now leads the Monarchs with a.424 batting average.
Lefthander Parker Friske held the Wolfpack hitless until John Whitleysingled up the middle to lead off the fourth inning. Friske pitched five scorelessinnings with no walks. Freshman Kevin Evans (Shamong, NJ.) and sophomore Jon Tinkham(Chesapeake, Va.) pitched the final four innings.
N.C. State scored in the seventh as Brian Wright led off with a double torightfield. Mike Prochaska singled and Wright scored on a Monarch error. Prochaska whoadvanced to third on the error later scored on a groundout by Craig Lee. N.C.State committed five errors, allowing the Monarchs eight unearned runs.
Old Dominion travels to Greenville, NC to take on CAA leading and 21stranked East Carolina in a three-game series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. NC Statehosts Miami (Fla.).
