Sollenberger's Hit Lifts ODU Past Liberty, 5-4

NORFOLK, VA. (March 29, 2000) -- Freshman secondbaseman Brent Sollenberger's (Chambersburg,Pa.) single plated Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.) in the sixth to give OldDominion University a 5-4 victory over Liberty Wednesday evening. The Monarchshave won four straight and 14 of their last 17 games after a 2-9-1 start.Liberty drops to 17-10.

The Flames scored twice in the second on solo homers by Kelly Knouse andJim Clinton. Old Dominion came back in the third as Jared Musolf (Lakehurst,NJ.)scored on a sacrifice fly by Jesse Thomas (Ventnor, Pa.). In the third, ODUtook the lead as Musolf singled home Sollenberger and Jeff Eure(Pillow, Pa.)later single home Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.). The Monarchs fourth run came inthe fourth inning as David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) singled home Travis Silverwith two outs.

In the fifth inning, Jim Clinton hit his second home run of the evening over400 feetto left centerfield. Jim Sullenger then tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly byJoeyMonahan to tie the game at four.

J.D. Jackson (Sallisaw, OK.) picked up the win for the Monarchs in reliefand Jonathan Tinkham(Chesapeake, Va.) picked up his second save of the year. Infour innings of relief the two pitchers only allowed Liberty one hit and onewalk. Sollenberger led the Monarchs with three hits on the day, while ScottieScott and Clinton had two hits each for Liberty.

Old Dominion returns to CAA play Friday at James Madison, beginning at 3p.m. Liberty hosts UNC Greensboro on April 3.
