George Mason Steals Win Away From Monarchs, 9-5

NORFOLK, VA. (March 24) - George Mason stole a team-record ten bases in route todefeating Old Dominion, 9-5, March 24 at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 12-12-1 on the year, 2-2 in the CAA,while the Patriots improve to 10-12-1, 1-0.

The Monarchs got on the board first, as Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY)walked, stole second and then scored on Jared Musolf's (Lakehurst, NJ)single. George Mason got on the board in the second inning, scoring twounearned runs as Brian Forthofer and Scott Yeager each advanced on athrowing error by Monarch shortstop Tim Hummel and later scored.

Already ahead 4-1, the Patriots scored four runs in the top half of thesixth inning as Mark Gibbs scored on an Evan Howard single, while Howardand Mike Johnson scored on Greg Filson's triple into the gap in rightcenter. Filson later scored to make it 8-1.

Old Dominion rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth RossRobertson (Chesapeake, VA) knocked in Joe Troilo (Avondale, PA) with a sacfly, Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA) doubled to drive in JasonGreiner (Wexford, PA). George Mason added an insurance run in the top ofthe seventh to go ahead 9-3.

Old Dominion again scored two in the bottom of the eighth, as Jesse Thomas(Ventnor, PA) and Greiner each scored, but the Monarchs could get nocloser as the final was 9-5 in favor of the Pats. George Mason?s MarcusDavis picked up the win, while center fielder Eddie Jordan collected threehits to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

The two teams meet again on Saturday at 2 pm.
