Hummel & Ross Lead Monarchs In 16-10 Slugfest Win

NORFOLK, VA. (Mar. 11) - Junior pre season All-American shortstop Tim Hummel(Montgomery, NY.) knocked in five runs on five hits, including a grand slam topower Old Dominion University to a 16-10 victory March 11 over Princeton. The Monarchsare now 7-10-1, while the Tigers are 1-1. ODU has won five of its last sixgames.

Hummel doubled in a run in the third and hit a grand slam in the Monarchssix-run fourth inning. Hummel went five-for-six with three runs scored on the day.He has raised his batting average to .438 this season with four homers and 24runs batted in.

Junior Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.) knocked in three runs with threehits,including his first collegiate home run in the second inning. Jeff Eure (Pillow,Pa.)and Joe Troilo (Avondale, Pa.) each knocked in two runs.

Mike Chernoff knocked in two runs for Princeton, while Jon Watterson andCasey Hildreth each had three hits on the day.

Monarch junior lefthander Parker Friske (Va. Beach, Va.) picked up hissecondwin this week. He fanned six throught six innings of work. The final game oftheseries will be March 12 at 1 p.m.
