Baseball: Eure Leads Monarchs to Fourth Straight Win, 8-5

LYNCHBURG, VA. -- Sophomore third baseman Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.)knocked in three runs to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion University to a 8-5victory over Liberty University Wednesday afternoon. The Monarchs have nowwon four straight to improve their record to 6-9-1, while the Flames drop to9-5.

Eure, who is now hitting .375 singled home David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.)inthefirst inning. In the third Eure flied out to centerfield, scoring Vilardiagain. In theseventh, Eure singled to centerfield, scoring Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg,Pa.).

Liberty cut a 6-3 lead to 6-5 in the eighth when Scottie Scott hit atwo-run homer,but freshman reliever Kevin Evans (Shamong, NJ.) settled down and retired thenext three batters in order in the eighth and ninth innings for his firstcollegiate save.

The Monarchs added two runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by senior JoeTroilo(Avondale, Pa.) and groundout run batted in by senior Jason Greiner (Wexford,Pa.).

Four Monarchs had two hits each. They were Sollenberger, Vilardi, Eure andJeffMusolf (Lakehurst, NJ.). Senior lefthander Brian Ross (Portland, ME.) picked uphis second win of the season. He fanned five in seven innings of work andloweredhis earned run average to 3.41. The Monarchs host Princeton in a three-gameseriesbeginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
