FAIRFAX, VA (Feb. 24) - Old Dominion's men's swimming and diving team finished just one-half pointoff the lead, while the women's team scored with record-setting individual performances in the first round of action at the CAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 24. James Madison leads both the men's and women's events, with ODU's men's team in second place and women's team in sixth.
Monarch seniors led the way for the men's team as defending CAA Diver of the Year Kevin Harrison (Bethpage, NY) won the men's one meter competition, while senior Jimmy Sullivan (West Palm Beach, FL) set an ODU record and qualified for the NCAA's by finishing in third-place in the men's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:27.80.
Lady Monarch freshman Jamie D'Agostino (Ardsley, NY) set a CAA meet record with a first-place performance in the women's 500 freestyle (4:55.30) while freshman diver Ashley Kirchner (Arlington, VA) finished in second-place in the women's three-meter dive competition.
Action resumes on Feb. 25 with the trials in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back, along with women's one meter and men's three meter diving starting at 10 am and the finals starting at 6 pm.
