CHARLESTON, SC. -- Mike Sollie tossed seven strong innings and Dan Mooney drove infour runs as North Carolina State defeated the Monarchs, 11-2 in the third roundof the Citadel Trademark Classic at Riley Park. ODU is now 1-2,The Wolfpack are also 1-2.
NC State took a 6-0 lead in the third with Mooney's three-run doublehighlighting the inning. The Monarchs scored in the bottom of the third whenJeff Eure(Pillow,Pa.) singled and came home to score on an rbi groundout byDavid Vilardi(Fishkill, NY.).The Monarchs second run came in the ninth as Eure hit a sacrifice fly to scoreRyan Dunn (Bristol, Va.).
Mike Sollie scatter seven hits and allowed one run for theWolfpack. Last year, ODU defeated the Wolfpack twice.
The Monarchs return home to host Howard on Tuesday at 3:00p.m. in the Bud Metheny Complex, then travel to Virginiaon Wednesday.
