Monarchs Fall to American in Overtime, 73-66

WASHINGTON (AP) (February 10, 2000) -- Andre McCullum scored 22 points to lead the Monarchs, but American defeated Old Dominion 73-66 in overtime Feb. 10 in Washington.

Old Dominion, (10-15, 5-7) which was led by Andre McCullum's 22 points, sent the game into overtime when Skipper Youngblood, 10 points, connected on a short jumper in the lane to tie the game at 62-62 with 26 seconds remaining.

Old Dominion rallied from a 17-7 deficit with 10:21 remaining in the first half by outscoring American 23-11 the rest of the half, despite 35 percent shooting from the floor in the half, to take a 30-28 halftime lead.

Keith Gray scored five of his career-high 18 points in overtime and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for American.

American, (9-13, 4-7 Colonial Athletic Association) which has now won eight of its last 10 home games, trailed by four with less than two minutes to play, but a 3-pointer by Ronald Hearns and a three-point play by Patrick Doctor with 1:21 remaining in the game gave the Eagles a 62-60 lead.

Doctor led the Eagles with 19 points.

The Eagles opened the overtime on a 9-1 run, five points coming from the foul line. American, which made only 10-20 from the foul line during regulation, connected on seven of 10 during the overtime to seal the win.
