Men's Basketball: Monarchs Fall in Overtime, 67-78

BLACKSBURG, VA. (Feb. 7)(AP) -- Brendan Dunlop scored 12 of the Hokies final 17 points, including 7 of 8 from the free throw line, to give Virginia Tech a 78-67 overtime victory Monday night over Old Dominion.

The final deadlock came at the 30-second mark in regulation when Dunlop hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 64. In the next possession, Dunlop forced a five-second violation on Old Dominion's Michael Williams, who was trying to hold the ball and make the last shot at the buzzer.

Dunlop, who finished with 17 points, was one of five Virginia Tech players to score in double figures. Dennis Mims also had 17, Rolan Roberts had 16, Brian Chase 14 and Andre Ray 10.

The Hokies (11-11) outrebounded the Monarchs (10-14) 33-29 and had eight fewer turnovers than Old Dominion. Virginia Tech scored 27 points off of 19 Monarchs turnovers.

Old Dominion's Skipper Youngblood led all scorers with 19 points.
