Old Dominion (8-12) showed all the signs of fatigue that might be expected from the Monarchs' long trip to the game. The team had been scheduled to take a 75-minute flight Tuesday, but heavy snow in Norfolk, Va., forced the Monarchs to take what wound up being a 13-hour bus ride.
Tremaine Gardiner had 15 points and seven rebounds for UNC-Charlotte.
James Zimmerman added 21 points as the 49ers (11-8) won for the fourth time in five games and improved to 6-0 at Halton Arena.
Old Dominion, losing for the fourth time in five road games, tied it at 7-all on a 3-pointer by Michael Williams before the 49ers took control. The Monarchs missed 17 of their last 19 field-goal attempts in the half, clearing the way for North Carolina Charlotte to build a 35-17 halftime lead.
North Carolina-Charlotte, opening a four-game home stand, also got 11 points from Jobey Thomas.
