Monarchs Get First CAA Victory Of The Year

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) (Jan. 8) - Skipper Youngblood led Old Dominion with 17 points and eight rebounds as the Monarchs beat Richmond 60-58.

Old Dominion led (6-9, 1-3 Colonial Athletic) 58-50 with 3:59 remaining, but Richmond (6-7, 2-1) cut the lead to 58-56 on Jeff Myers' layup with 1:32 remaining.

Michael Williams hit two free throws with eight seconds left to put the Monarchs ahead 60-56 and seal the victory.

The lead changed hands 13 times in the game, but Old Dominion led throughout the game's final 14 minutes.

Old Dominion committed only 11 fouls during the game, and Richmond converted just four of its eight free-throw attempts.

Youngblood was the only player to score in double figures for Old Dominion. The Monarchs' bench outscored Richmond's 21-8.

Kinte Smith led Richmond with 21 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Freshman Ricardo Marsh scored a career high nine points andpulled down a career high eight rebounds. The Monarchsreturn to action on Wednesday night when they host JamesMadison at 7:35 p.m. in the Scope Arena.
