Monarchs Fifth After Two Days At NIKE Cup Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC (Nov. 20) - Old Dominion's men's swimming and diving team currently stands in fifth-place overall at the Nike Cup Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of North Carolina. The #23 Tar Heels lead the event with 776 points, followed by LSU (621), Texas A&M (494.50), Syracuse (257) and Old Dominion (194.50).

The women's team is currently in ninth-place, tied with CAA foe East Carolina with 76 points. The #18 Lady Tar Heels lead the women's event with 910 points, followed by LSU (541), Kentucky (321), U Conn (269) and Syracuse (223).

The Monarchs have been paced by solid individual performances in both swimming and diving and by the Monarch relay teams which have posted several top-10 finishes. Leading the way with the best individual finish is freshman Matt Morrisette (Virginia Beach, VA), who finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.05. Senior Jimmy Sullivan (West Palm Beach, FL) finished fifth in the men's 500 free (4:33.30).

The women's team has been paced by freshman freestyle specialist Jamie D'Agostino (Ardsley, NY), whose best performance was a fourth-place finish in the women's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.26.

Kevin Harrison (Bethpage, NY) has posted top-ten's in both the one and three meter diving events, finishing sixth in the one meter (407.05) and eighth in the three meter (407.40). The Monarch relay team of Greg Cardillo (Providence, RI), Mike Coley (Niskayuna, NY), Morrisette and John Sax (Memphis, TN) has finished in fourth-place in the 200-yard free relay (1:25.14) and eighth-place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.75), while the team of Morrisette, Mark Guisto (Virginia Beach, VA), Coley and John Wall (Hoover, AL) finished in fourth-place in the 800 free relay (6:57.32).

The event concludes on Saturday night, with finals beginning at 6:30 pm and extending through 10:30 pm.
