Monarchs Open Regular Season Saturday With UT Chattanooga

Old Dominion will host the Mocs of UT Chattanooga Saturday afternoon at 2:00p.m. inthe fieldhouse to open the 1999-2000 basketball season.

SERIES WITH UTC
The Monarchs lead the series, 1-0. Old Dominion defeated the Mocs in Chattanoogalastyear, 74-60 as Michael Williams led with 16 points.

ODU IN THE FIELDHOUSE
Since 1970, the Monarchs are 98-9 (.916) in the fieldhouse. Last year, OldDominion was 5-0,including a 75-56 NIT victory over Seton Hall.

OPENING THE SEASON
Old Dominion is 18-5 in season openers since moving up to Division I in 1976-77.In homeopeners, the Monarchs are 21-2.

Head Coach Jeff Capel is just two wins shy of 100 at Old Dominion. He is177-126 in tenoverall seasons. He is 98-61 in five years at Old Dominion. Freshmen centers JoePrincipe(Gladstone, MO) and Charles Dunnington (Washington, DC) will redshirt thisseason. Center-forward Aron McMillian will become eligible to play in the Monarchs game atKansas Stateon Dec. 22. The CAA Tournament will be March 3-6 at the Richmond Coliseum inRichmond,Va. The Championship game will be live on ESPN2.

Cal Bowdler ('99) is averaging 1.5 ppg and 1.0 rpg for the Atlanta Hawks. MarkWest ('83)is playing for Phoenix and was featured in the July issue of Fortune Magazine.He was alsovice-president of the NBA Players Association. Odell Hodge ('97), and PeteySessoms areplaying on the same team in Belgium. Mark Poag ('99) is playing in Germany andReggieBassette ('99) is playing in Greece. Chris Gatling ('91) is second on theOrlando Magic averaging 15.3 points and 7.8 rebounds off the bench.
