HARRISONBURG, VA. (November 7) -- Marina DiGiacomo (Mendoza, Argentina) scored two goalsand Julie Miracle (Audubon, Pa.) added another as the seventh ranked LadyMonarchs defeated ninth ranked James Madison, 3-1 and win their eighth ColonialAthletic Association tournament title. DiGiacomo was named the Tournament MostValuable Player.
Later on this week, Old Dominion will be making their 19th straight NCAATournament appearance, which is more than any other NCAA Division I school.The defending National Champions have won eight titles.
The Dukes scored first as Katrina Hunter netted a goal on an assist fromLizSanders and Sarah Perilla with 23:27 left in the first half. With nine minutesleft in the half, Marina DiGiacomo scored on a penalty stroke, then with 5:39left in the half she scored again on an assist from Ashleigh Miller and AdrienneYoder to put Old Dominion up for good.
In the second half, Julie Miracle scored on an unassisted goal to completethescoring. Old Dominion outshot JMU 15-10. Freshman goaltender Mary BethFreeman came up with five saves.
Five Lady Monarchs were named to the CAA All-Tournament squad. JoiningMVP DiGaicomo are Adrienne Yoder, Kim Miller, Ashleigh Miller and JulieMiracle. NCAA pairings will comeout later this week.
