Capel Inducted into Fayetteville State Hall of Fame

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - (Oct. 25) Old Dominion University men's basketball coachJeff Capel was inducted into the Fayetteville State University Hall of Fame onFriday, Oct. 22nd.

The 1977 graduate of Fayetteville State coached at Pinecrest High in NorthCarolina for eightyears, winning 111 games before going to Wake Forest as an assistant coach. In1989 he returned to his alma mater and in just three years led the Broncos to a22-8 record. The following year, FSU was 20-9 and reached the NCAA Division IIregionals. In 1993, Capel became the head coach at North Carolina A&T inGreensboro, NC. That season, the Aggies won the MEAC Tournament and advanced tothe NCAA Tournament.

Since coming to Old Dominion in 1994-95, Capel has won 98 games, includinga school tying best 25-9 record last year. His Monarch teams have reached theCAA finals three times, winning twice. In 1995, Old Dominion shocked the basketballworld with a 89-81 triple overtime win over Big East Champion Villanova in theNCAA first round game at Albany, NY. That win was Capel's 100th careercollegiate win. Capel will enter the 1999-2000 season with a 177-126 overallrecord and a 98-61 mark at Old Dominion.
