NORFOLK, Va. (August 10) -- Old Dominion sailing coach Mitch Brindley announced today OpSail 2000 has signed on as the title sponsor of the 1999 Old Dominion University Corporate Sailing Challenge. The regatta will take place on September 18 with proceeds benefitting Old Dominion University's sailing program, winners of 11 national titles.
The challenge will consist of up to 16 corporate sponsored teams of four, sailing in a two division collegiate style format and using Old Dominion's FJ Class racing sailboats.
"The Corporate Sailing Challenge is our primary fund raising event of the year," said Brindley. "It gives area sailors the rare chance "to go back to school" and race in a collegiate style regatta in provided collegiate racing dinghies. It puts the fun back in fund raising."
The racing begins on September 18 at 2 pm at the Old Dominion University Sailing Center. At 5 pm trophies will be presented to the winners with a party and cookout following.
Entries to date include last year's winner Landmark Communications, along with The Dragas Companies, Norfolk Boat Works, The Moore Group, Wilbanks Smith and Thomas, Sign Media and Team Widow Maker.
The 1999-2000 season is sure to be an exciting one for Old Dominion. The co-ed team enters the season ranked seventh, while the women's team is ranked 12th.
The public is encouraged to participate in this opportunity to support the 11-time National Champion sailing program. For further information, contact the Old Dominion Sailing Center at (757) 683-3387.
