Sutton Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

NORFOLK, Va. (July 6) - Kevin Sutton, the athletic director and head basketball coach at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Md., has been named an assistant coach at Old Dominion University, as announced by Jeff Capel, head men's basketball coach.

Sutton previously served as the associate head coach at St. John's Prospect Hall in Frederick, MD from 1992-98.

"We are very lucky to have a coach of Kevin's caliber joining our program," said Capel. "He has helped develop numerous great players, including Randolph Childress, Nate James, and Serge Zwikker. He is a great teacher and will help develop our current and future players."

Sutton was selected the Beltway Basketball league coach of the year in 1999 after Montrose captured the conference championship. This past season, Montrose posted a 32-6 record and was ranked as high as #18 in the Washington, DC area. During his tenure at St. John's, he coached 10 nationally ranked teams, including the 1998 teams that earned No. 1 status.

In addition to his stints at Montrose and St. John's, Sutton served as head coach at Harker Preparatory School in Potomac, MD from 1990-92 and as an assistant coach at Flint Hill Prep in Falls Church from 1988-90. A graduate of James Madison University, he served as a graduate assistant coach for the Dukes from 1986-88. His appointment at Old Dominion is effective August 1.
