Sailing Monarchs Finish 5th At Co-ed Dinghy National Championships

ST.PETERSBURG, FL (June 4) -- The Old Dominion University co-ed dinghy sailingsquad finished in fifth place at the ICYRA Co-ed Dinghy National Collegiate SailingChampionships Friday 16 races. Boston University won the event with 104 points,while the Monarchs finished with 148. ODU's A boat of Mark Zagol (Plymouth, MA.)and Heather Pescatelo (Westerly, RI.) finished second with 57 points, just six behindTufts. The Monarchs B Division boat of Adam Burns (Youngstown, NY.)and Lora Saunders(Richmond, Va.) was eighth with 91 points.

All four Monarch sailors were named first team All-Americans. Zagol,a senior was one of four finalists for National College Sailor of The Year. Mark Ivy of St. Mary's won that award.

This year, the Monarchs finished second nationally in the ICYRA Singlehanded National Championships, 14th in the women's ICYRA Singlehanded National championships, and the Sloop team placed ninth at the ICYRA Sloop National Championships.
