David Jones joined ODU Sports Properties, an operating unit of Playfly Sports Properties, in January 2024, as the General Manager.
Jones is responsible for cultivating corporate partnerships with national, regional and local brands looking to engage Monarchs fans through an integrated mix of sports marketing platforms. Multimedia rights include ESPN+ television, radio, in-venue signage, event sponsorships and activations, experiential assets, retail and in-venue promotions, print, digital & social channel advertising, coach endorsements, intellectual property, and corporate hospitality.
Jones brings a unique perspective and a consultative approach to partnership development based on his experiences as a brand leader, agency owner, and property manager who has been exposed to many thoughts and ideas via extensive travel in the United States and around world.
Jones joined ODU Sports Properties after serving four years as Director, Partnership Development at Auburn Sports Properties, also an operating unit of Playfly Sports Properties. Prior to joining Auburn Sports Properties, he was an entrepreneur for six years as the President/Founder of Devotion Agency, LLC, a marketing consultancy, corporate partnership development, and promotional products agency. Jones started his career as a Retail Product Analyst at Russell Athletic before taking on responsibilities as Product Manager, Supervisor of Forecasting & Planning, Manager of Team Sports Marketing, and Director of Teamwear. He later served as the Director of Marketing for Schutt Sports, the VP of Marketing for JT Sports, and the VP & GM for DaySpring Cards, a subsidiary of Hallmark. In addition, Jones taught entrepreneurship, marketing, statistics, strategic planning, and teamwork as an adjunct business instructor for John Brown University and Central Alabama Community College.
Originally from Anniston, Alabama, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance from Jacksonville State University and his MBA with concentrations in Marketing and Finance from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. Jones and his wife Jennifer are in the process of relocating to the Hampton Roads area.
