Carlos Lopez Villa Season 2012-13

2014-15 (Senior Season): Started the season ranked No. 43 and knocked off the top ranked player in the conference, UTSA’s No. 42 ranked Tomas Stillman, in straights sets. For the third time in his career, Lopez Villa was named the Conference USA player of the Week: Jan. 27 (2014), Feb 12 (2013) and Jan. 22 (2013).

2013-14 (Junior Season): Became just the second male in school history to capture the Regional Single’s crown after defeating VCU’s Alexis Huegas in the finals... Won first round match at Nationals by defeating New Mexico’s Samir Iftikhar before falling to the eventual National Champion, Clay Thompson of UCLA, in the second round... In the spring, took down Princeton’s 119th ranked Zack McCourt (2/1)... Went 20-1 on the season and went on a nine match winning streak while playing at the No. 1 slot all year... Was ranked as high as No. 30 this season... Snapped UNCW’s No. 69 Rafael Atia’s three-match winning streak in dominating two-set fashion 6-1, 6-0... Was named to his second consecutive Conference USA All-Academic Team and received the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.

2012-13 (Sophomore Season): Earned First-Team All-Conference USA honors and was named to the second-team in doubles... Was named to the C-USA Men’s Tennis All-Academic Team... Finished season ranked No. 86 in final Men’s Tennis ITA Poll...Finished 18-1 in singles competition and won first 13 matches... Earned C-USA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on January 22 after opening up the season with a win over No. 32 Juan Spir of No. 59 Georgia Tech (1/18)... Also earned C-USA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on February 12... Defeated Xander Centenari of No. 58 Dartmouth (2/1)... Knocked off John Huang of No. 50 Yale (3/17)... Also topped Rafael Aita of No. 55 UNCW (4/11)... Went 14-5 in doubles competition with Can Centinel... In doubles, defeated ranked opponents from No. 50 Yale (3/17) and No. 72 SMU (4/19).

2011-12 (Freshman Season): 3rd Team All-CAA... Completed his singles season at 13-8... 2nd Team All-CAA in doubles... Finished the doubles season with a combined record of 20-4.
