NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion will face its stiffest challenge of the season thus far Sunday as the Lady Monarchs look to continue their four-game home winning streak against No. 9/8 Tennessee. The Lady Monarchs and Lady Vols are set to tip at 2 p.m. from the Constant Center.
The game will be televised on Comcast Mid-Atlantic and will be aired locally on Cox 11. The contest will also be shown on tape delay on Comcast South at 4 p.m. John Castleberry will be on the play-by-play, while Cal Bowdler will provide color analysis.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 94.1 FM with play-by-play from Tony Mercurio and color analysis from Susan Montgomery.
Sunday is also a BLUE OUT and all fans in attendance are encouraged to wear ODU Blue to the game. A total of 500 t-shirts will be given away pre-game and there is a $250 student spirit contest for student organizations and athletic teams.
Old Dominion (3-2) is coming off a 63-55 loss at Florida. Senior guard Shadasia Green paced the team with 14 points, while classmate Jasmine Parker chipped in 10 and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
The Lady Monarchs are a perfect 3-0 at home this season, including wins over Georgia Tech and Louisville, and have won four straight at the Constant Center, dating back to last seasons WNIT win over American.
Tennessee (7-1) topped Lamar, 99-55, at home Wednesday. Freshman Meighan Simmons broke Tennessee's single-game record for three-point field goals with eight. Simmons, making her first career start at point guard, scored 28 points in the win.
The Lady Vols were picked to win the SEC this year after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. Three Tennessee players were named to the 2010-11 Naismith preseason watch list as senior guard/forward Angie Bjorklund, redshirt junior/ center Kelley Cain and junior guard/forward Shekinna Stricklen all made the 50-person list for the award given to the women's basketball college player of the year.
Although Tennessee holds a 34-9 all-time advantage, ODU's nine victories over the Lady Vols is the eighth most all-time and fifth most among non-SEC schools.
