NORFOLK, VA--Former ODU Soccer All-American Edson Elcock ('07)was named USL (United Soccer Leagues) First division Player of the Week. David Horst ('08), a two-time CAA Defender of the YearMade his first start for the MLS Real Salt Lake.
Elcock is a forward for Puerto Rico in the USL. He scored two goals six minutes apart to help Puerto RicoTo a 3-0 win over Seattle. Elcock has played eight games for the Islanders after playing for the ML KansasCity Wizards reserve team. Elcock helped lead ODU to the 2006 NCAA round of 16 where he scored 11Goals and added six assists. He was the ODU Alumni Association's Male Athlete of the Year and earnedAll-American honors as well.
David Horst, who became ODU's first ever first round MLS selection got his first start for Real SaltLake last week against the Columbus Crew. Real Salt Lake is currently in second place in the MLS. Horst also played five games for the RSL reserves.
Other former Monarchs like Yomby William(`08) who was a second round pick by Kansas City has playedTwo games for Real Salt Lake reserved team and three games for Kansas City's reserve team.
Carlos Mendes ('02) is in his fourth season with the MLS New York Red Bull. He has nine starts in 14matches this year. Last season, Mendes started all but one game and was voted by the New York mediaas the Red Bull's team Defender of the Year. Along with six of his Red Bull teammates, appeared in a Sept. 2005 Vogue Magazine photo spread with Victoria's Secret supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Mendes was an All-CAA and All Region selectionas ODU.
