NORFOLK, VA-- The 25th ranked ODU soccer Monarchs (0-1-1) travel to State College,PA to take on Big Ten runner-up Ohio State (1-0-1) andPenn State (0-2)in the Penn State Nike Classic. ODU will play Ohio State Friday night at 7:45, then Penn State Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
ODU lost to top ranked Wake Forest, 2-1 in overtime and tied 16th rankedNorth Carolina, 1-1 at the UNC Tournament last weekend.
ODU and Ohio State have played twice before. The Monarchs defeatedthe Buckeyes in 1988, 2-0 in overtime and 3-0 in 1995. Ohio Statetied No.21 Creighton and beat No. 24 Rutgers, 1-0 last weekend.
ODU and Penn State have met twice before. ODU defeated the NittanyLions, 2-1 in 1989 and lost at home in 2001, 3-0.
The Monarchs fell out of the NSCAA/adidas poll, but rank 25th inSoccer News poll.
Ambane Emanuel and Ollie Lutton have scored both Monarch goals, whilenewcomer Daniel Haywood leads the team with two assists.
The Monarchs return home next weekend, Sept. 14 and 16 to host theStihl Soccer Classic with William and Mary, Dartmouth and Temple.
