RICHMOND, VA -- The Colonial Athletic Association released the 2007 Preseason Team, headlined by Old Dominion senior defender David Horst as the CAA men's soccer Preseason Player of the Year. Horst is one of 29 players on the Hermann Trophy Watch List as the nation's top collegiate men's soccer player, and was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year in voting by the league's head coaches. Also named to the team for Old Dominion was junior Trevor Banks.
Horst was the 2006 Defender of the Year for the CAA and was also selected to the second team preseason All-American team by COLLEGE SOCCER NEWS. He was the anchor to an ODU defense that posted 10 shutouts and allowed only 24 goals in 22 matches.
Banks was also a significant piece to the successful defense last year, as the Monarchs made their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The team advanced to the round of 16 for the first time in school history.
The Monarchs start the 2007 season this Friday, August 31 at the Carolina Nike Classic in Chapel Hill, NC as they take on Wake Forest at 5:00 pm. They will then play the Tarheels on Sunday, September 2 with kick-off set for 7:00 pm.
