ALAN DAWSON SIGNS A FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

May 24, 2007

NORFOLK, VA --- Old Dominion University athletic director Jim Jarrett announced today that men's soccer coach Alan Dawson has been awarded a new five-year contract. Dawson's Monarchs advanced to the round of 16 this past season in the NCAA College Cup tournament with a 14-6-2 record, and he has taken the soccer program to five consecutive NCAA tournaments.

"I am delighted to commit to an exciting future for the Old Dominion University soccer program," said Dawson. "We now have one of the finest soccer complexes in the nation with the completion of our new stadium offices and locker rooms and a state of the art practice facility adjacent to the stadium. It's an exciting time to be at Old Dominion."

Dawson is the winningest ODU soccer coach in school history. He has compiled a 115-63-15 record in ten seasons and is 244-93-25 in 17 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He has been named CAA Coach of the Year four times, was honored by the NSCAA as the 1999 South Atlantic Coach of the Year and is a two-time Virginia Collegiate Soccer Coach of the Year.

"Old Dominion University is pleased Alan Dawson will continue to lead our men's soccer program and we look forward to more exciting accomplishments in the years ahead," said Jarrett.
