FAIRFAX, Va. - The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) released its post season awards Tuesday night on the eve of the 2006 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Three Lady Monarchs were represented on All-CAA teams including junior Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) and sophomore T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) on the All-CAA Second Team and senior Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) on the All-CAA Third Team.
Triggs makes her first ever All-CAA team having appeared in and started all 27 games. ODU's second leading scorer behind Jordan, she enters the post-season averaging 12.0 points and is the team's top rebounder collecting an average of 7.4 per game. Triggs has performed six double-doubles, more than any other teammate this season. Among her season highs include a 22-point career night at George Mason and a season-high 13 boards in the regular season home finale against William & Mary. She is shooting a team-best .568 percent from the field, leads the team with 32 blocks, and is tied with Paula Muxiri for the team leader in steals with 35. Triggs ranks 18th in scoring in the CAA (12.0 ppg), ninth in rebounding (7.4 rpg), and seventh in blocked shots (1.19 bpg).
Jordan played in all 27 games, making 21 starts, and took over the starting point guard role after a season-ending injury to Jen Nuzzo. Jordan leads the team with 13.3 points per game and is dishing out an average of 2.4 assists per game. She enters the tournament ranked 13th in scoring in the CAA (13.3), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.388), and tops the list in 3-point field goals made (83). She is currently chasing Aubrey Eblin's single season three-point record (97 - 1997) have made 83 thus far. Jordan has reached double figures in all but six games and netted a season-high 23 points at George Mason in February. The Hampton Roads native has also reached 20 or more points three times and tied career-high with seven three pointers made at George Mason at the Patriot Center.
Davis is the Lady Monarchs' second leading scorer averaging 10.7 points having started all but two games this season. She registered double figure scoring in 18 games, including the last four straight and poured in a season-high 21 points against #19/20 Vanderbilt. Among her CAA peers she ranks fifth in field goal percentage (.491), sixth in free throw percentage (.767), and 14th in assists (2.67 per game, 72 total).
The Lady Monarchs begin their journey to bring home a NCAA record 15th straight league title on Thursday night at 7:30 in the quarterfinals. Old Dominion will take on the winner of Wednesday night's #8 George Mason/#9 Virginia Commonwealth match-up.
