NORFOLK, Va. -- Freshman forward/center Sharon Houston (Merrillville, Ind.) has been released from the Old Dominion women's basketball team for personal reasons as announced by head coach Wendy Larry.

Houston was a three-time Most Valuable Player and all-conference selection during her high school career. She averaged 15 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks as a senior at Merrillville High School and poured in an average of 27 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks as a junior at Lew Wallace High School.

The 2006-07 Lady Monarch women's basketball team, ranked 18th by Street & Smith's Preseason Poll, will kick off the exhibition portion of its schedule on Sunday, October 29th with the annual Blue-White Scrimmage. Two more exhibition games follow on Wednesday, November 1st and Tuesday, November 7th, before the season officially begins at intra-state rival Virginia on Sunday, October 12th. Old Dominion returns four starters and nine letterwinners from last year's 22-9 team. Among the returnees include CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player and Second Team All-CAA honoree junior guard T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) and Second Team All-CAA member senior forward Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.).
