Sept. 27, 2005

NORFOLK, VA--After shutting out two nationally ranked opponents in #4 Virginia and #20 Davidson, the Old Dominion University Men's Soccer Team have climbed 12 spots in the latest NSCAA/adidas coaches poll, landing at the #6 spot. The ranking is ODU's highest since September 2004 when they were ranked 4th in the land. The Monarchs are also ranked 10th in the newest Soccer America poll after being unranked in the same poll the previous week. The Monarchs are also ranked #1 in the South Atlantic region according to the NSCAA.

Last Wednesday, ODU defeated then #4 Virginia 3-0 off of two Brian Cvilikas' (Highlands Ranch, CO) goals. Cvilikas would tally two more goals in a Monarch road win over Davidson 3-0 last Saturday. Cvilikas earned CSN National Player of the Week honors along with collecting CAA Player of the Week honors for his offensive outburst. Cvilikas now leads the conference in goals scored and points overall, and ranks fourth in the nation in goals per game. He is also sitting at 8th in the country in points per game.

ODU's conference game at Drexel University will be televised on local channel WSKY on Sunday October 9th at 12:00 noon. CN8, a Comcast channel that stretches from Maine to Richmond, will also carry the telecast live.

The Monarchs return to action Friday night for their first CAA match against UNCW. ODU returns home Sunday to take on Georgia State at 1:00 p.m.
