NORFOLK, VA--The #22 ranked Old Dominion Soccer Monarchs traveled to American University Saturday night and came away with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles in their final preseason tune up before regular season play commences. The Monarchs upped their preseason record to 1-0-1 while American finished their preseason 1-1-1 after a victory over James Madison and a tie with #6 Virginia.
The Monarchs were led by Junior Jared Kent (Marietta, GA) who tallied a goal and an assist on the night. Kent kicked off the scoring by knocking in a cross from Brian Cvilikas (Highland Ranch, CO). The Eagles would soon tie the game at 1-1. Freshman Djordje Jankovic (Sabac, Serbia) gave the Monarchs the lead for good when he earned an unassisted goal to make the score 2-1. Sophomore David Horst (Pine Grove, PA) would give the Monarchs an insurance goal after putting away a corner kick from Kent into the back of the net to finish the scoring at 3-1.
ODU begins their regular season slate Thursday September 1st with a match against North Carolina State at the ODU Soccer Stadium. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. Also, the Stihl Classic will be taking place Friday September 9th and Sunday September 11th at the ODU Soccer Stadium. The Monarchs will be facing Rhode Island on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Clemson on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. William & Mary is the 4th participant in the tourney.
