NEWARK, DE--The 3rd ranked Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs aim to continue their four-game winning streak this weekend as they travel to Delaware and Drexel for two weekend Colonial Athletic Association road contests. Game time against Delaware is set for Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Drexel match will take place Sunday at 12:00 noon, and will be televised live locally on the WSKY channel and regionally on CN8.
On the strength of a four-match shutout streak, the Monarchs have improved their record to 7-1-1 (2-0), one of the best starts in school history. Last week, ODU edged UNC-Wilmington on the road 1-0, and followed that up with a 6-0 victory over Georgia State. Senior forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) named as a consensus National Player of the Week for October 2-8, scored two more goals against Georgia State and now ranks 2nd in the nation in goals per game, and 3rd in points per game. Junior midfielder Gregg Mottinger (Carrollton, TX) tallied three assists in the Georgia State match and is now tied for second in the CAA in that category. ODU is now ranked #3 by NSCAA/adidas coaches poll, #7 by Soccer America, and 10th by both College Soccer News and Soccer Times
The Fighting Blue Hens of Delaware fell to Hofstra 5-0 last weekend to drop their record to 1-5-3 (0-1-1) on the year. ODU is 7-1 all-time against Delaware, last defeating them in double overtime 3-2 in 2004. Delaware is led by junior Anthony Talarico, who has scored two of the Blue Hens' three goals this season.
Drexel is currently sitting at 2-5-2 (1-0-1) after a defeat of Hofstra, and a tie of Northeastern. The Monarchs are 4-1 all-time against the Dragons, defeating them 1-0 last season. Freshman Mike Crosse leads Drexel with four points and has taken twenty shots thus far, most on the team.
