COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Kim McQuarter (ODU' 89), head coach at Malcom X Junior College since the 2000-01 season has been selected by USA BasketballWomen's Collegiate Committee to serve as one of the court coaches at the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Trials.
McQuarter, a four-year letterwinner and two-year starter at Old Dominion from 1986-1989 helped the Lady Monarchs to a trio of NCAA tournaments, including the1987 Sun Belt Conference title and NCAA "Sweet 16". She was named to the 1989All-Sun Belt second team and completed her career with 1,250 which ranks her 19thon ODU's all-time scoring list. She led the team in steals in 1986 at 1.7 per game.
Since graduating from ODU, McQuarter piloted Malcom X College to a25-6 record in 2003-04 with a NJCAA national ranking of 15. Her squad claimeddistrict and conference championship and she earned Coach of the Year honors.In 2002-03 her squad compiled a 24-9 record and a No. 1 finish in her conference, district and region. She was honored as the District and conference Coach of the Year as well.
She has also served as an assistant at Loyola University (1993-95, head coach at Chicago State (1995-1998).
The trials court coaching staff is responsible for conducting drills, coachingScrimmages and working with players who will be vying for spots on the 2004 USAJunior World Championship Qualifying team. The trials will be held June 20-23 at theU.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The head coach of the USA Basketball Women's Junior World ChampionshipQualifying team will be Ceal Barry of the University of Colorado.
