NORFOLK, VA -- Senior Max Nhassengo (Maputo, Mozambique) became the third Lady Monarch this season to earn Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week honors after leading the Old Dominion women's basketball team to victories over Hofstra (105-62) and UNC-Wilmington (68-59) and further solidifying their first place position in the conference.
Nhassengo poured in a career-high 27 points as the Lady Monarchs avenged their lone conference loss of the season, beating Hofstra, 105-62, in a match-up of the league's top two teams on Thursday. Nhassengo connected on 11-of-18 (61.1%) shots from the field and converted 5-of-6 (83.3%) free throw opportunities to surpass her previous career-high of 25 points, which was set earlier this season. The senior guard added six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win.
On Sunday, Nhassengo netted 14 points shooting 50% from the field (6-for-12) as one of four Lady Monarchs in double-figures. Tweleve of Nhassengo's 14 points came in the first half of play. She added four rebounds and two steals as ODU completed the regular-season sweep of the Seahawks.
On the week, Nhassengo averaged 20.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, shot 56.6% (17-for-30) from the field and recorded five steals and three assists.
