Lady Monarch Basketball Among The Winniest Programs In Division I Over Last Five Seasons

NORFOLK, VA -- In a recent survey conducted by the Duke University Sports Information Office, the Lady Monarch women's basketball program was one of the top programs in the win column over the last five seasons. Old Dominion ranked ninth in the survey with 127 wins between the 1998-99 and 2002-03 seasons, averaging 25.4 victories per season.

Connecticut topped the chart with 173 victories, with Tennessee coming in second with 157 wins, followed by Duke in third with 153 victories. Also rounding out the top five were Louisiana Tech (148) and 2002 NCAA Second Round opponent Purdue (141).

Eight of Old Dominion's upcoming 2003-04 opponents cracked the top 50. Tennessee (157 wins), Penn State (120 wins), and North Carolina (117 wins) rank in the top 15 along with possible WBCA Classic opponent Notre Dame (128 wins).

Also included in the top 50 were Virginia Tech (113 wins), Rutgers (108 wins), Florida International (105 wins), and conference rival and 2003 CAA runner-up Delaware (108 wins).

The Lady Monarchs open the 2003-04 campaign at the WBCA Classic, a preseason tournament held at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. Old Dominion opens play against host Colorado, a school also featured in the survey with 95 victories over the last five seasons, on November 14th.
