2003 NCAA Second Round
Ted Constant Convocation Center - Norfolk, Virginia
Boston College Head Coach Cathy Inglese:
"I'm just so proud of this group coming back. Each kid that came off thebench showed a lot of effort. I just cannot be more proud."
"I can't say any more about them. They had such a burning desire to be inthe Sweet Sixteen. If we had to go down the whole bench, I think the samething would've happened. They have such a great outside game. We've gotto beat them as a team and they were ready to go to get the job done."
"Clare (Droesch) was a great spark off the bench for us. She made somequick shots. We are going to be talking about Brooke (Queenan). She justplayed her natural game and she was really our secret weapon."
On their next opponent:
"It would be nice to play someone different. We're (Connecticut) both inthe BIG EAST and winning. You don't want to be battling each other in thetournament, but they are the number one team in the country and we want toget another shot at them."
"We wanted to double down on (Chantelle) Anderson and make them pass theball. We tried to pull off the guards."
Becky Gottstein, Senior Forward Boston College:
"I just can't say enough about our team and Boston College and how Amber(Jacobs) was our little savior again. We said it in the beginning of theyear, getting to the Sweet Sixteen was one of our goals. This is what Iwanted to do for the past five years and I'm just so excited right now. This was how it"s supposed to happen."
On missing the two free throws at the end of regulation:
"I apologized to coach in the locker room and she said 'that's okay becausewe won.' and it is okay because we won."
Amber Jacobs, Junior Guard, Boston College:
"I'm in shock. It"s always great to hit the last basket and I couldn'thave done it without the thirteen players behind me. To be a part of ateam to gut it out and show the heart we showed is amazing."
Vanderbilt Head Coach, Melanie Balcomb:
"I think it was a great game. Obviously, both teams shot the ball well. Ithink the only reason the game did not go our way is because they simplyoutrebounded us. If you look at the stats, everything else is pretty muchthe same. Boston College did a great job of never giving up and comingafter us the whole time. I give them credit for how tough they were."
On expectations:
"I had the same expectations that everyone had. I wanted to take this teamto the Final Four. I think they did a great job of changing and accepting.I'm proud of how they accepted me and my coaching staff. I really wishthat we could have gotten a lot closer to our goal. I know right now itdoesn't look like it, but I want them to be able to look back and realizewhat we accomplished."
Chantelle Anderson Senior Center, Vanderbilt:
"Everyone played their heart out. They played really, really hard."
On breaking Wendy Scholtens' all time school scoring record:
"That is the last thing on my mind. It doesn't really matter to me rightnow obviously. It was a goal and I accomplished it."
Jenni Benningfield, Sophomore Guard, Vanderbilt:
"I think the last couple of minutes we had momentum in the first half. They had a run going into halftime and they had momentum. We knew thesecond half was going to be a war. There were times that we executed andthere were times we didn't. We knew it was going to be a great game andthat every person would count."
