The Old Dominion men's soccer team will meet #1 seed Wake Forest tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Winston-Salem, NC in the second round of the NCAA Soccer Cup.
The Monarchs advanced to the next round after shutting out Richmond Saturday night 3-0 in their first ever NCAA Tournament victory. Wake Forest earned the number one seed in this year's tournament and received a first round bye.
ODU comes into the game with a 10-8-1 record while #1 Wake Forest is 14-1-4. Their lone loss came against UVA in the ACC semi-finals.
The Deacons and the Monarchs should be at least familiar with each other after meeting in early September in Norfolk. Wake Forest won that contest 2-1, after being down 1-0 in the second half. Old Dominion also traveled to Winston-Salem for the NCAA Tournament in 1989 when the Deacons defeated the Monarchs by a 2-1 score.
The winner of this contest will then face either Coastal Carolina or Clemson in the Sweet 16 this weekend. If ODU advances, they will host Coastal Carolina if they win, or travel to Clemson if they beat Coastal. It would be ODU's first ever Sweet 16 appearance.
