LADY MONARCHS INK THREE DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD
NORFOLK, VA (November 21, 2002) -- Old Dominion women's basketballWendy Larry has announced that 6-5 center Angela Brown (Albany, KY/ClintonCounty), 5-10 forward Tish Lyons (Newport News, VA/Woodside), and 6-1forward Sherida Triggs (Atlanta, GA/Meadowcreek) have all signed NationalLetters of Intent to play for the Lady Monarchs beginning in the fall of2003.
"Angela has great size, good hands, and a soft touch,"said Lady Monarch head coach Wendy Larry. "She is a welcome edition to our front court. Tish has a tremendous shooting ability, Additionally her skills as a rebounder will be a valuable asset."
Brown averaged 17.0 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks for ClintonCounty High School last year as a junior. She has been a member of thevarsity team since eighth grade and last season guided her team to itsfirst-ever Sweet 16 appearance. Brown,s teams over the last four yearshave recorded 20 or more win including last year's 29-5 record as a FirstTeam All-State honoree. Brown has also been considered among the top shotblockers in the state.
Hampton Roads native Lyons from Woodside High School averaged 16.4points and 8.6 rebounds for the Wolverines. Her squad reached the regionsemi-finals with a 23-5 record. Lyons is already the school?s all-timeleading scorer having netted over 1,400 career points. Last season as ajunior, Lyons was an All-District and Second Team All-State selection.
Triggs recorded 12.2 ppg and 7.9 rebounds last season, as herMeadowcreek squad was a AAAA runner-up. Triggs has been named a Street &Smith All-American-Honorable Mention, AAAA All-State Honorable Mention, andFirst Team All-Gwinnett County.
The Lady Monarchs begin their season on November 22nd when they hostin-state rival, Virginia, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
