NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion field hockey's Serena Langendoen was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, the conference announced Thursday. Langendoen also earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors, while Sofia Marciano and Josie Painter were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.

Langendoen, a third-year native of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, has recorded 40 points this season on 17 goals and six assists, more than doubling her previous career total of 15 points in one season. Her game-winning goal in ODU's 3-2 victory over Georgetown secured the Monarchs' spot in the BIG EAST Championship.

The third-year defender ranks sixth in total points (40), seventh in both goals per game (1.0) and points per game (2.35) and leads all Division-I defenders in all three categories.

Langendoen scored in 12 games this season, totaling 17 goals. Some of her top performances include a pair of goals against No. 5 North Carolina, including the game-winner on a penalty stroke in overtime to secure ODU's 5-4 victory. She also recorded her second career hat trick in the Monarchs' 4-3 win over Richmond in October and added two-goal performances against Saint Louis and Queens (N.C.).

Langendoen's standout season earned her five weekly awards, including four BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors and one BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week recognition. She received her first selection on Sept. 15 following ODU's 5-4 overtime win over No. 5 North Carolina. Langendoen scored the game-winning goal to secure ODU's first win over a top-five-ranked team since a 2-1 victory over Virginia in 2021.

She earned her second weekly honor on Sept. 29 after scoring twice in ODU's 5-1 win over Saint Louis. She knotted the score at one in the first quarter before adding an insurance goal later in the game. She also contributed to a defensive effort that limited the Billikens to four shots.

Langendoen earned her third Defensive Player of the Week honor after scoring twice in ODU's 4-3 comeback win over Villanova. She followed that performance with another two-goal outing in a 9-0 shutout of Queens (N.C.), scoring in the first and fourth quarters as the Monarchs outshot the Royals 24-3.

On Oct. 20, Langendoen earned her first Offensive Player of the Week honor after helping lead Old Dominion to a 2-0 weekend on the road, recording three goals and six points in wins over Temple and Richmond. She delivered a standout performance in the 4-3 overtime victory at Richmond, recording her first hat trick of the season and the second of her career.

Her fifth weekly honor came following ODU's 3-2 victory over Georgetown, helping the Monarchs clinch the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Championship. Langendoen contributed on both ends of the field, assisting on Madison Zalewski's opening goal off a penalty corner in the first quarter before scoring the game-winning goal early in the fourth quarter. She finished with three points on one goal and one assist, along with six shots, including two on goal. Defensively, Langendoen and the Monarchs limited Georgetown to 10 shots.

Marciano, a third-year native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, earned her first All-BIG EAST Second Team honors after recording 22 points on nine goals and four assists. She earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 15 after totaling four points on two goals to help Old Dominion rally to a 5-4 overtime victory over No. 5 North Carolina.

She ranks sixth in shots (42) in the BIG EAST, fifth in shots on goal (28), fifth in game-winning goals (3), ninth in goals (9) and ninth in points (22).

Painter, a second-year from Richmond, Virginia, earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors after recording 17 points on five goals and seven assists this season. She earned a BIG EAST Honor Roll recognition on Sept. 15 after scoring just two minutes into ODU's season-opening 3-2 win over Ohio State. She also assisted on the game-winning goal to finish with three points. Painter followed with a four-point performance in ODU's 7-0 victory over Bellarmine, recording one goal and two assists. She finished the weekend with two goals, three assists and seven points, putting both of her shots on goal for a perfect 1.000 shooting percentage.

She ranks seventh in assists (7) in the BIG EAST, 11th in defensive saves (1), 17th in points (17) and 24th in goals (5).

Old Dominion will face No. 2 seed Liberty on Friday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. at the BIG EAST Championship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
