NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion men’s soccer hosts #15 West Virginia at the ODU Soccer Complex on Friday, October 8 at 7 p.m.

LAST MEETING:
The Monarchs fell to the Mountaineers in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Quarterfinal, 2-2 (5-4 PKs). Old Dominion grabbed a go-ahead goal from Lewis Rourke in the 83rd minute but conceded a goal in the 89th to Pablo Pozos. The game went to extra time, and eventually penalty kicks where the Monarchs fell, 5-4 PKs at the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
ABOUT ODU:
Old Dominion is looking for its first Sun Belt Conference points after getting off to an 0-3 start. Last time out the Monarchs fell to Kentucky in Lexington, 4-2. Old Dominion went 8-0 in its non-conference schedule. ODU has had 13 different goalscorers, has outscored its opponents, 33-17, and has scored 5+ goals on three occasions.
The Monarchs have scored 33 goals through 10 games and have a scoring offense rating of 3.0 which both rank third best in Division I. ODU as a team has compiled 91 total points and ranks fifth best in the country. The Monarchs average 8.3 points per game to rank sixth best in the nation. With 17 goals conceded Old Dominion has a +18-goal difference to sit seventh best in the country. ODU has an average of 7.60 shots on goal per game rank and has provided 25 assists to rank seventh and 18th in D-I, respectively.
Lewis Rourke leads the Monarchs in points (17), goals (7), and is tied for first in assists (3). The Nottingham, England native is ranked second in the nation in shot accuracy (79%), tied for 13th in the country in total points (17) and tied for 16th in goals (6). Rourke’s 17 points and 1.89 points per game are both tied for first in the Sun Belt, his seven goals are ranked second, and his three assists rank fourth best in the conference.
Jason Purks has burst on the scene in his first season in Silver and Blue. He is right behind Rourke with 15 points and six goals scored. The Oakwood, Ohio native’s is ranked 13th in Division I in shot accuracy (65.2), his 15 points are good for 29th, and his six goals are tied for 31st. He ranks third in the Sun Belt in goals (6), goals per game (.55), points (15), points per game (1.36) and ranks fourth in assists (3).
Fifth year transfer David Chapman has gotten off to a strong start as a leader in the back line. The 6-4 defender is an aerial threat on set pieces and has scored three goals. He has also chipped in two assists to tally eight total points to rank third on the Monarchs. His three goals rank 10th best in the conference and his eight points are tied for ninth.
Defender Ludovico Vicini has provided three assists and scored two goals for seven points to rank fourth best for the Silver and Blue. His three assists are tied for fourth in the conference and his 0.27 assists per game is tied for 10th.
Second year goalkeeper Alexander Aguilar has provided two assists and has logged 990 minutes in net to rank tied for second in the nation. Aguilar has made 34 saves to rank tied for second in the Sun Belt. The Manassas, Virginia native has recorded two shutouts to rank tied for fourth in the conference.
ABOUT WVU:
West Virginia is undefeated in the past eight games and are coming off back-to-back draws against #11 South Carolina, 1-1, and a 1-1 at Marshall. The Mountaineers have a record of 5-1-3 and are 1-0-2 in the Sun Belt. They are led by head coach Dan Stratford in his seventh season in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers have a +6-goal differential and average 1.44 goals per game. WVU takes 14.3 shots per game and on average hit the target on 41.1% of their shots. They conceded 5.3 shots per game and opponents average a 43.8% shot on goal percentage. The Mountaineers also have a +43-corner kick attempt differential.
Forward Pablo Pozos leads West Virginia with 10 points from four goals and two assists. Forward Sammie Walker has scored two goals and provided two assists for six points which ranks six on the team. Julen Recalde and Isaac Scheer both have five points, Recalde has scored two goals and one assist while Scheer has a team high three assists and one goal.
Toby Mawer has started every game in goal for WVU, he has a 78% save percentage, and he has kept four clean sheets. Mawer has conceded seven goals and has a save percentage of 65%.
